Title: Small Batch Coffee

Small Batch Coffee CompanySmall Batch Coffee is a boutique coffee roasting company based in Hove, East Sussex. Every day we roast some of the finest coffees from around the world at our roastery in Goldstone Villas. Our name is derived from our commitment to roasting coffee in small batches no larger than 12kg's to ensure freshness, quality and consistency. We came together in 2007 as a group of professional baristas with a shared passion for coffee and quality of service and a desire to bring a higher level of coffee to the local market. Working closely with our import partners we now source speciality coffees from across the globe, buying only the best of each years crop and paying a fair and just price to the talented farmers that work so hard to produce them. We are thrilled you've expressed an interest in Small Batch coffee and hope you can take a few moments to read about the beautiful coffees we stock, where they come from and how we roast them.

Our Coffee

Every cup of coffee served around the world has undergone an epic journey and ours are no different. Whether they arrive from South America, East Africa or Indonesia all of our beans have been lovingly grown and cared for by talented and professional farmers, and purchased by our importer at a fair and sustainable price. This is the basic ethos of our Direct Trade sourcing model: By encouraging the growers to invest in the production of speciality grade coffee they are ensured a continuing and sustainable market for their product and paid a speciality grade price for it.

Once the beans arrive in Hove we scrutinise them thoroughly; test roasting and tasting them endlessly until we have found the perfect roast profile for each bean. Only then do they find their way into one of our espresso blends.

Coffee, like most things, tastes better when its fresh. As soon as the roasted bean comes into contact with oxygen it begins the slow process of staleing. After three weeks it has lost its optimum flavours and attributes. That's why we roast our coffee in small batches on a daily basis, so that you will never have to drink it when it’s past its best. Part science and part craft, the roasting of coffee is an integral part of the chain that leads coffee cherries from the tree to your cup. In the olden days it was done in a bowl over a fire, these days thankfully we have beautiful gas fired bespoke machines to do the job under the watchful eyes of our roasters.
